Tonight- 9:30 PM Eastern, 6:30 PM Pacific. #2 Duke v. #4Ohio State. This is the biggest game of the year so far in College Hoops, with both teams being in the top 5 when playing each other. Expect the Cameron Crazies to be borderline insane tonight, this could be a huge game when determining Duke’s spot in the Tourney in March.
Duke has already beaten two top 5 teams away from home: #3 Kentucky and #2 Louisville. A third win tonight would further show that Duke is back this year, back to the winning ways of the 2010 Championship team. The ACC does not look too strong this year, so three victories for the Blue Devils over top 5 non-conference teams would be huge.
Look for Senior Mason Plumlee to lead the way against the somewhat under-sized Buckeye team; Plumlee is leading Duke with 19.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. The Duke guards have been lights out from 3, with Seth Curry and Rasheed Sulaimon both averaging double-digits in scoring.
As for Ohio State, point guard Aaron Croft has been outstanding, averaging 14 &5 assists. Forward Deshaun Thomas has been even better- averaging 24 points and 7 rebounds.
The Big Ten looks to be as strong as they have been in years, and they are dominating the Big Ten- ACC Challenge. As much as I love seeing the Tar Heels getting annihilated by the Hoosiers, I fear that the ACC will be weak this year. It is up to Duke tonight to prove that the top of the ACC is not inferior. My prediction: Duke 76, Ohio State 69.
