Thoughts from The Penthouse

For those of you who are looking to be filled in with the recent sports world, here is what has been happening:

1) The two biggest upsets in college football took place this last weekend, and here is something that is interesting: The two schools (Baylor and Stanford) that upset the #1 and #2 teams were the teams that were the home to the #1 and #2 picks in the 2012- Andrew Luck and RG3. It is not some sort of controversy, but it is a stat worth mentioning.

2) Speaking of Andrew Luck and RG3, who is going to win the Rookie of the Year award? Including Doug Martin, those three rookies are putting up outstanding numbers, and their respective teams are improved from last year. If RG3 and the Redskins go into Dallas on Thanksgiving and dominate the Cowboys, then I have to put him in the front-runner position. However, we will see if any of those three teams make the playoffs, the conversation will be revisited.

3) Alex Smith’s job is in jeopardy. Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to an impressive beat-down of the Bears on MNF, and he looked fantastic in his first career start. Alex Smith has been inconsistent all year long, and Jim Harbaugh is not afraid to give the ball to the “hot hand”. Those of you who think Alex Smith has job security probably feel the same way about Lane Kiffin; you probably thought the same about Mike Brown, too.

4) Speaking of people losing their jobs, Jeff Tedford just got canned by the Cal Bears. About time!! The Bears have been mediocre for years now, and getting blown out by Stanford in The Big Game is expected. Aaron Rodgers was the last good quarterback to come out of Tedford’s system, and it was definitely time for a change.

5) I will be attending the Fresno State v. Air Force game on saturday; a Fresno St. game with the most implications since they barely lost to USC and Reggie Bush. A share of the MWC Championship is up for grabs, and a win will secure it. Go Bulldogs!!

6) An interview with Stanford Basketball freshman Grant Verhoeven is still in the workings. The Carinal play #14 Missouri on the 23rd, and I would like to see what his thoughts are on the game. However, he is very busy, and it is difficult to find free time. That interview will be the next video, nothing else will be aired in the meanwhile.
