As much as I love baseball, I am happy the season is over. The Giants winning was a great way to end the year, and now we do not have to listen to the combination of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Unfortunately, Joe still does the NFL games on FOX, but at least Troy Aikman is with him to balance the means- Troy is one of the better announcers. Joe, on the other hand, is not so good. The main reason he has the job is because he is the son of the legendary Jack Buck, but he is nowhere in the same league as his father. Sports fans like to hear announcers who are blue-collar guys- someone who you would like to watch a ball game with. Joe Buck sounds like someone who would rather watch the Opera than a football game, and someone who would rather hang out with Frasier and Niles Crane than Brett Favre.
To make it worse, FOX baseball teams him up with Tim McCarver, the biggest homer in sports. Watching Tim McCarver announce a Yankees’ game is like watching a Laker game with Jack Nicholson: you know who they are rooting for. It was obvious during the NLCS that Buck&McCarver were biased, considering they both have ties with the St. Louis Cardinals. When the Giants scored it was like the duo was cringing through their teeth to say it; Giants fans, you can relate. He may not be the worst announcer, but Joe Buck is not my favorite.
